Children's Program at Holliswood

Please visit our new website dedicated to addressing children age 4 through 10 who experience acute behavioral and/ or emotional problems.

The hardest decision a parent might have to make is whether or not their child is in need of psychiatric hospitalization. We are extremely mindful of the impact hospitalization has on a young child and their family. We make every effort to be responsive to this rather significant event in the life of a family. We understand the difficulty in making that decision and our staff is here to assist you and answer any questions you might have while your child is with us.

Although a child’s emotional problems are often distressing, anger provoking, frustrating and humiliating, the key lies in its early detection and prompt treatment. The strength of a child lies in his or her malleability and ability to change and with your support and our expertise, we can be a team that can help move a child from an abyss of despair to betterment. It is imperative that caregivers participate in the treatment plan, to not only benefit the patient but also benefit the family as a whole.
The Children’s Program is a 15-bed unit providing intensive inpatient psychiatric care for children ages 4 through 10 who experience acute behavioral and/ or emotional problems. Our state of the art programming focuses on incorporating educational services, psychiatric evaluation, group therapy, individual therapy, family therapy, psychopharmacology, behavioral modification, and family workshops to address the needs of our children. The patients participate in a school program for several hours a day. The School program is a New York City Department of Education School on site.
In addition, supportive educational opportunities are available for family members:

Tuesdays 8:30-9:15pm - Parenting Skills Workshop
Thursdays 8:30-9:15pm - Multi-family Support Group

Family members are encouraged to visit, participate in programs, and contribute to the wellness of their child. Items from home including favorite toys, clothing, pictures of family, etc will be encouraged to be part of the child’s experience during their hospitalization. Please take a moment to review the additional items for items that would assist in your child’s stay. (Please insert link to approved items)
The children’s day is structured from the moment they awake until bedtime. The day is full of therapeutic activities including Art, drama, music, pet and play therapies, problem solving therapy, Recreational therapy, Individual, group and family sessions, physical fitness activities, etc. In order to keep the children engaged in their treatment we incorporated additional services such as “Only make Believe” Drama Company, NYPD Community Relation Services, FDNY, Book Mobile and many others.
It is important that we are able to treat your child with as many intensive services as possible. In order to have the opportunity to provide your child with  as many services as possible there are structure-visiting times.
